This year’s edition of Opera Selecta takes place from July 4th to August 9th, and the honor of opening it goes to the world’s best living violinist, Maxim Vengerov. Accompanied on the piano by the emotionally powerful pianist Evgenia Startseva, Vengerov will perform four violin sonatas by L. v. Beethoven under the lights of the imposing Kamerlengo Fortress. The concert evening will be enriched by a dramatic recital of German poetry performed by the national drama champion Joško Ševo.
It is well known that Vengerov brings a lot of his own sense of color, tempo, and dynamics to the interpretation of Beethoven’s compositions, not adhering strictly to conventional performance norms. Numerous recordings and albums have made this artist famous, but audiences around the world particularly highlight his live performances as an unparalleled experience that touches all who hear him. Emphasized phrasing, a rich, full tone, and Beethoven’s sonatas are the recipe for a musical experience that calls to an audience eager for a world-class performance.
