PlayDrama – hilarious play about the curse of being a Dalmatian woman

There are three (un)lucky actresses who fully brought to life three typical suffering, but not spoiled domestic women: Petra Kovačić Botić, Ana Uršula Najev and Ana Marija Veselčić. The main characters are three unnamed friends, as Dalmatians say – “prije”, young Dalmatian women who direct their view of the world and healthy gossip towards the audience, pretending to watch an ancient tragedy. At the same time, the text makes fun of its own profession, questions the lexical value of “theatre” and “theatre”, cynically describes the acting job and rounds off the (tragic) comedy by referring to the ancient woman, Medea, pointing out that “a Dalmatian mother would twist her neck to her children and her husband, if she could “.

“Prije” of this team of authors are women with flaws and problems, burdened by other people’s opinions, husbands, children, mothers-in-law. Their stage movement when describing household chores and the concept of the operation of the washing machine, and especially the sexual act, causes hysterical laughter. What is not at all funny are the logical questions that are just beginning to be asked, for example – why is a woman treated and mistreated as another creature because she is menstruating, why is a cheated woman questioning herself and her (in)ability to remain silent (“You don’t have to hear everything” “) while her husband is cuckolding her, why doesn’t a woman have the luxury of lying around with a beer and becoming a Super-lin heroine? All these serious social stereotypes are wrapped in attractive cellophane of our eavesdropping on an ordinary friendly afternoon accompanied by “Magazine” songs.

The title “Sretna ne bila” is one of the more grotesque curses from the pop range of local lyricists. However, the play we laugh at so much did not come out of nothing. The reality of the times in which the authors of the play operate still leaves room for us to at least laugh heartily – and at ourselves – in our own helplessness, showing all the gloom of the state’s negligence and a society tailored to men.
